Police are investigating an incident in which an employee with Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) was attacked with an acid in Likoni, Mombasa.

The employee is admitted to the hospital with serious burns after the Wednesday night incident.

The motive of the attack is yet to be known, police said.

The employee attached to the Ferry Services security department told police he had left work and crossed to Likoni before taking a motorcycle to his home in the Almirage area at about 9 pm.

On the way, two other men on a motorcycle overtook them.

He said the motorcycle had trailed them for a while.

It was then that one of them poured a chemical on the pillion passenger on the face from close range.

This was after the rider carrying the KPA worker had been blocked.

He was burnt in the face and later rushed to Shelly Beach Hospital before being transferred to Aga Khan in Mombasa, police say. He was admitted in stable condition.

The suspects, the rider and his pillion passenger, rode off to an unknown destination.

Police said they are yet to know who the attackers were and the motive of the same.

A hunt on the two is ongoing, coast police boss George Sedah said.

Meanwhile, police are investigating an incident in which a group of goons raided a construction site in Nairobi and stole construction materials off Riverside Drive.

The group of about 20 had come to the site at Divine Residence and held captive five guards on duty.

The five guards were injured in the Thursday evening drama.

Witnesses said two of the guards were armed with AK47 rifles while others had crude weapons.

They stole an assortment of construction materials of unknown value which they transported using a lorry of which registration number is still unknown.

The goons also stole CCTV cameras and footage from the site before escaping.

Police visited the site and announced investigations had been opened to pursue the attackers.

Police are reviewing CCTV footage on neighbouring houses and roads to get the details of the goons.
