The government is putting in place robust measures to tackle youth unemployment in the country, President William Ruto has assured.
The President said the government is investing in vocational education to equip youths with market-ready knowledge, skills and competencies.
Additionally, he said the government is setting up ICT hubs across the country to expose the youth to lucrative digital jobs that are already transforming the lives of many.
Ruto said the government is also negotiating for more jobs abroad under the export of labour programme.
Ruto made the remarks on Thursday when he officially opened the Webuye West Technical and Vocational College and ICT Hub in Machakha, Bungoma.
In January, Ruto said all leaders must work together to create jobs for youths who have no source of livelihood.
He said that those in positions of leadership and those that have jobs are in those positions not because they are special but because of luck.
The President insisted that it is important that such leaders think about those that are without jobs while they serve.
"The leaders of Kenya, whether you are in the judiciary, whether you are in the legislature, in the executive, all of us must work together knowing very well that it is a privilege for us to serve. We are not better than those who don't have the jobs we have," Ruto said then.
"We are just lucky and it is important for us to think about the millions of children and young people who have gone to school have certificates, diplomas and degrees but don't have jobs."
Ruto spoke during the opening of the Mukiria TTI Tuition Block and Engineering Workshop and Launch of TVET Virtual Desktop Infrastructure Project, Meru county.
