Labour Cabinet Secretary Florence Bore Tuesday engaged in significant bilateral discussions with Kazakhstan's Vice Minister for Labor Akmadi Sarbassov.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of the ongoing International Labor Conference in Geneva, Switzerland.

The high-level dialogue, Bore said, focused on the mutual interests of Kenya and Kazakhstan in the labour sector, aiming to explore and complement the demand and supply of labour between the two countries.

She said the discussions centred on creating opportunities for Kenyan workers in Kazakhstan, particularly in the teaching sector.

The demand for English and Science teachers in the Central Asian country, she noted, presents a substantial opportunity for Kenyan educators.

According to Bore, Kenya has a robust pool of qualified teachers who can fulfil this demand, thus fostering educational ties between the two nations.

Beyond education, the talks between the two also covered opportunities for Kenyan technicians and health professionals.

Bore noted the potential for Kenyan technicians to serve in various sectors in Kazakhstan, which would help bridge skill gaps and enhance bilateral cooperation in technical fields.

The healthcare sector, in particular, emerged as a critical area of focus.

Sarbassov pointed out that Kazakhstan's healthcare sector, which continues to expand, requires skilled healthcare professionals.

The two leaders also discussed the establishment of a consulate in Kazakhstan.

They agreed that having a consulate would be essential in providing support and assistance to Kenyan workers in Kazakhstan.

"It would facilitate smoother transitions for Kenyan workers, ensuring they receive the necessary guidance and support while working abroad," said Bore

At the same time, the CS urged the team to consider the draft Bilateral Labour Agreement for Labour Migration.

This agreement aims to streamline the migration process for workers between Kenya and Kazakhstan, ensuring that labour movements are regulated, safe, and beneficial for both countries.

It would also provide a structured framework for managing labor migration, addressing issues such as workers' rights, employment standards, and social protection.
