A refugee hacked and killed a fellow refugee in a new attack at the Kakuma camp in Turkana.

This is the latest such attack pitting refugees at the camp where up to 15 refugees were killed in a fight between two clans.

The latest incident happened on July 11 at the expansive camp when a man attacked four people using a panga.

The motive of the attack was not immediately established but it is believed to be linked to the ongoing clashes there.

Police said they are investigating the incident.

Police said one Grace Lukuju succumbed to head injuries while three others were injured and admitted at the local IRC Clinic 7 Hospital.

The main suspect was also subjected to mob injustice before he was saved and was also admitted at IRC Clinic 7 Hospital under guard and in a very critical condition where his identity remains unknown.

The body of the refugee was moved to Lodwar County Hospital Mortuary awaiting autopsy.

This came days after counterattacks left 14 refugees dead.

Police said an uneasy calm had returned to the camp.

The refugee camp located in Turkana West witnessed clashes between Nuer and Anyuak communities from neighbouring South Sudan.

Community elders brokered a truce between the warring parties after the retaliatory attacks displaced families.

The clashes saw schools closed.

The camp's Department of Refugee Services (DRS) Manager said the elders' intervention was crucial in bringing peace.

The conflict saw displaced families seek refuge in distant places, with some taking shelter in local churches.

They were however returned to Kakuma amid protests.

The United National High Commission for Refugees and Kenya Red Cross Society teams were on the ground to receive the refugees.

UNHCR and KRCS teams registered the arrivals and provided much-needed food, water, and clothing.

Humanitarian organisations and the DRS are aiding the camp's reconstruction efforts, the manager said.

Asylum seekers and the local community said they were hopeful to return to peace and coexistence.

Kakuma Camp is divided into four areas: Kakuma 1, 2, 3 and 4 whilst the Kalobeyei Integrated Settlement comprises 3 villages.

Kakuma Refugee Camp is located in the North-western region of Kenya.

The camp was established in 1992.
