Kenya is leading the MSS mission in the Caribbean nation intending to bring peace and stability through eradicating gang violence.

Over half a million people have fled their homes due to the violence and around half the population is going hungry.

The attacks from criminal groups have pushed Haiti's health system to the brink of collapse and the escalating violence has led to a surge in patients with serious illnesses and a shortage of resources to treat them.

Gangs have been looting, setting fires and destroying medical institutions and pharmacies in the capital, where they control up to 80 per cent of the area.

Kenya has agreed with the Haitian government on rules of engagement for the security personnel, who could face fierce opposition from the well-armed Haitian gangs that have taken over the country’s capital and overwhelmed local police.

A second batch of Kenya police landed on July 18 in readiness to help fight gangs that had almost overrun the Caribbean nation.
