DCI rescues abducted child, arrests suspect

Police in Entebess have rescued a five-year-old child alleged to have been kidnapped.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations in a statement on Friday said the main suspect had also been arrested.

The operation which led to the rescue and subsequent arrest of the suspect, 27, was done by a joint team of detectives from DCI and general duty officers from Endebess Subcounty.

According to the police, the minor is believed to have been abducted by the suspect and transported to Kapnandi area in Uganda.

The child was allegedly abducted on July 23. 

The minor was then sneaked into Uganda and left in the hands of a fairly old granny as the suspect demanded Sh100,000 in exchange for the child's freedom.

"After days of investigations, the detectives smoked the suspect from his hideout where he led them to Uganda leading to the rescue of the child and the arrest of the second suspect," DCI said.

The child has since been handed over to the parents.

The DCI said the suspects have been arraigned and released on a Sh100,000 cash bail.
