MPs have instructed the management of the Kenya Breweries Limited to provide a detailed breakdown of its logistics service providers.

Members of the Committee on Trade, Industry, and Cooperatives chaired by Embakasi North MP James Gakuya issued the directive during a meeting with KBL Managing Director Mark Ocitti.

The meeting was convened to investigate allegations that KBL does not engage local firms for its logistics services.

Ocitti in response refuted the claims, stating that KBL has contracted four Kenyan-owned companies.

However, committee members led by the chairperson expressed reservations about the actual ownership of the logistics firms.

"We want to be furnished with more details about the four logistics service providers. We need to know who owns them and the percentage of business each company was allocated," Gakuya said.

The committee also requested information on warehousing and security service providers, which will be crucial for their final report.

Kenya Breweries Limited has been a leading brewer in Kenya since it began operations in 1922.

KBL and Tanganyika Breweries Limited merged leading to the change of name to East African Breweries Limited (EABL).

On March 6, 2024, the committee met with officials from the Kenya Transporters Association (KTA) Limited.

KTA Chairman Newton Wang'oo had requested the MPs' intervention to resolve a dispute between local and international transport firms.

Wang'oo alleged that multinational companies prefer to work with other international firms, which he described as unfair business practices.
