Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is a man in a precarious situation as the momentum for his impeachment continues to gain traction.

In a rare show, MPs from across the political divides have united to express their dissatisfaction over Gachagua’s conduct in office.

Sources indicate that a formal motion for Gachagua’s impeachment is not only prepared but is also ready to be tabled in Parliament as early as Tuesday next week.

"One thing is clear, the impeachment is no longer a matter of if but when," an MP from the Rift Valley told us on condition of anonymity.

He also confirmed that the collection of signatures has already surpassed the necessary threshold, solidifying the support needed to proceed with the motion.

Late Tuesday night, some Kenya Kwanza lawmakers reportedly convened at a hotel in Nairobi to strategise their next steps.

It is during this meeting that they reportedly outlined their approach for mobilising support and fine-tuning their message to constituents. This is to ensure that their push for impeachment resonates with the public.

Emurua Dikir MP Johaha Ngeno, who has been a key supporter of Gachagua and one of his point men in Rift Valley, appears to have changed hearts.

On Thursday, he posted a photo on his appending his signature for the impeachment. The list he shared shows that the signatures have hit 220. This is more than three-quarters of the whole House.

"Let God's will be done," he wrote.

While the UDA side has made significant strides in gathering support, a crucial decision remains in the dentity of the MP, who will formally table the motion.

Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga, who spoke during the interdenominational funeral service for the 21 Hillside Academy victims, quipped, "for every action, there will be a reaction.

Gachagua, who was also present on his part, steered clear of the matter, only calling on leaders to respect the people of Mt Kenya.

Without directly mentioning anyone, Gachagua reminded them that “the people from the region are very forgiving, but they don’t forget."

Gachagua said the people from the region should be treated with the kindness they deserve.

“These people were there; they are there today, and they will be there tomorrow. I appeal to everybody to treat the people of the mountain with kindness because it is the right thing to do,” he said.

DAP-K party leader Wamalwa assured Gachagua of his support amid what he termed as plans to divide the Mt Kenya region.

"We want to remind those behind trying to ignite a fire in the mountain that they should know this mountain has friends," he said.

“When you see Kalonzo here, he is a friend of the mountain, he was the vice president of late president Mwai Kibaki during his first term...When you see Wamalwa here, Wamalwa was the Kibaki’s vice president during the first term,” he said.

“Just know we are your friends. If the day comes and this mountain calls upon us, we will stand with you, you will not walk alone."
