Environment Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale now says that President William Ruto decision to appoint Dorcas Oduor as the Attorney General is the best decision he made.
According to Duale, Oduor is very brilliant and effective as the Attorney General.
He went on to say that she has gained experience serving in the State Law office throughout her career and has good understanding of how it operates.
The CS noted that Oduor is one of the best women public servants in the country.
“Our first ever woman Attorney General, that was the best decision the President made. She has grown in the State Law office, she is very brilliant, she goes to court and is very effective. I think she's one of the best women public servants,” Duale said on Citizen TV.
President Ruto tapped the services of Oduor who was at the time serving as the Secretary of Public Prosecutions at the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
The appointment made her the first woman AG in the country.
The Head of State also clarified that her appointment was based on merit and not just her being a woman.
“Many people have said you become the first woman in independent Kenya to become Attorney General. This appointment is not just about you being a woman, it’s about you being competent. I am very confident that on account confidence and ability to deliver, you deserve to serve in this position.
"I am very confident and clear that you will not only make us as a country proud but also you will demonstrate what has always been said that what a man can do, maybe a woman can do better. Many people will be watching,” Ruto said.
She had previously served in various capacities including Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), Head of Economic, International and Emerging Crimes Departments) (ODPP).
She also worked as the Deputy Chief State Counsel and as a State Counsel for the (department of Public Prosecution) at the then Office of the Attorney General.
She has been a member in various agencies/commissions including as Chairperson of the Board of Review on Mentally Insane (Criminal Psychiatric), Assisting Counsel Akiwumi Commission on Land Clashes, and Assisting Counsel Bosire Commission on the Goldenberg Affair.
She has worked as the Assisting Counsel Kiruki Commission on Artur Brothers, Joint Secretary Police Reform Commission, (Ransley Commission), Chair of the Board on Criminal Psychiatrists (on behalf of the Attorney General) and member of the National Task Force on Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing among others.
