Former Attorney General and Busia Senator Amos Wako now says that Professor Kithure Kindiki will help President William Ruto in bringing national unity.

According to Wako, ethnicity and tribalism are one of the biggest issues the country has to deal with.

He said Kindiki will focus more on creating national unity, which will ensure all Kenyans feel that they are part of the country, regardless of which side of the political divide they voted for.

He insisted that Kindiki is qualified to assist is qualified to assist the president in doing this.

“One of the major issues confronting this country is the issue of ethnicity. The negative aspects of tribalism and so on. The President is the symbol of national unity, the deputy president is constitutionally the principal assistant to the president to ensure and support the as he discharges his difficult tasks and I believe from how I've known Kindiki, he is a person who will focus more on creating that national unity.

“On ensuring that every person in Kenya feels that he is indeed a shareholder in government, whether you voted for government or opposition. Prof Kindiki is eminently qualified to assist the President in that regard of creating national unity,” Wako said.

He went on to say that the new DP will also help bring meritocracy in state appointments.

The former Senator reminisced of an instance where Kindiki allowed him to lead a committee because he was qualified to do it, when it was government policy that only state allied MPs could chair committees.

Wako said that from this act, he believes the new DP can ensure people get state appointments on merit.

“The second thing he will bring to bear is meritocracy. In spite of the fact that I had been elected on the opposition ticket, he went against government policy at that time and said because I merited to be chairman of the Committee on Legal Affairs and Human Rights, I should become one although from the opposition and I think he will also help the President in ensuring meritocracy culture gets hold of the appointments of people to public service. Kindiki is qualified to fulfil that.”

Wako added that Kindiki will also be able to cool down the current political temperatures.

Kindiki took the oath of office on Friday after about two weeks of waiting for the courts to lift orders that barred his ascent to the DP’s office.
