Ex-Cabinet Minister Hon Peter Oloo Aringo is dead

He died on Friday evening at a hospital in Nairobi at the age of 83.

Former Minister Peter Oloo Aringo

Former Education Minister Peter Oloo Aringo also former MP Alego Usonga is dead.

He died on Friday evening at a hospital in Nairobi at the age of 83

This was confirmed by the current Alego Usonga MP Samuel Atandi Atandi through his Facebook page said, "I break the sad news of the sudden demise of Hon.Peter Oloo Aringo, former Cabinet Minister and MP Alego Usonga. Hon. Aringo passed on this evening at Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi. May his soul rest in Peace".

He previously represented the Alego Constituency in the National Assembly of Kenya in two separate stints between 1974–1988 and 1997–2002.

He is particularly remembered as the only leader who has served in the parliamentary docket for 25 years.

Oloo-Aringo was born in 1941 and attended St. Mary's School in Yala, Kenya. 

Former ICT Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo mourning Aringo said early this year on January 14, 2024, he visited the late at his Nairobi residence where they had a lengthy conversation on various issues.

"We will remember Oloo Aringo as an eloquent and intelligent Cabinet Minister; an Avid Debator during his stint as MP; and subsequently as a pioneer of Kenya’s Parliamentary Service Comission(PSC)".

He added "At this moment of grief, I join the family, friends, relatives, the people of Alego and Kenyans at large in mourning one of the most brilliant minds Kenya has ever produced".

Other Kenyans and leaders also wrote messages of condolences for Oloo.

Stephen Mutoro, "the long-serving MP and Minister for Education who implemented the 8-4-4 system under President Moi and called him the "Prince of Peace" has passed on. Condolences to his family and friends.Aringo Oloo Castro Peter."
