National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula has led Members of Parliament in mourning the passing of former Education Cabinet Minister and Ex-Alego Usonga MP Peter Castro Oloo Aringo.
Wetang'ula described Oloo as a brilliant leader who served Kenya with dedication and distinction.
Wetang’ula, who served alongside Oloo in the sixth Parliament, highlighted his remarkable contributions to the nation.
“His service to the people of Kenya was marked by brilliance, servant leadership, and a deep commitment to addressing critical issues, not only for Alego Usonga but for the entire country," Wetang'ula stated.
Reflecting on Oloo's legacy, Speaker Wetang’ula praised his visionary role in championing the establishment of the Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC), which has been instrumental in supporting the welfare of MPs and parliamentary staff.
“As Speaker of the National Assembly and Chairperson of the PSC, I celebrate the late Hon. Oloo Aringo for his invaluable role in establishing the Parliamentary Service Commission, which secured the constitutional independence of Parliament,” he noted.
Wetang'ula emphasised that Oloo was part of a team of visionaries that sought to strengthen parliamentary democracy.
“He helped create a commission that safeguards the independence of Parliament, promoting democracy and fortifying Parliament as a true symbol of the sovereignty of the Kenyan people," he added.
“For this, we are forever indebted to the people of Alego Usonga for giving us a patriot whose invaluable contributions shape our legislature to this day.”
Turning to Oloo's tenure as Minister for Education, Wetang'ula recounted his instrumental role in overseeing the operationalization of the 8-4-4 education system and promoting technical institutes across Kenya’s provinces.
He was also the one who presented Bills in Parliament that were enacted into law to make Moi, Maseno and Egerton universities public institutions.
“On behalf of Parliament and myself, I extend heartfelt condolences to Hon. Aringo’s family. May God comfort them in this time of loss, and may his soul rest in peace,” Wetang'ula concluded.
