Mandera Governor Mohamed Adan and the county’s former Senator Billow Kerrow have been engaged in a heated exchange on social media over the running of the county.
It all started when Billow shared a video of the governor speaking in their native language on X social platform saying that it was good the county boss had stopped hiding behind Members of County Assembly.
He said that the governor attacking his critics will only enhance the criticism he faces as he runs the county of Mandera.
Billow urged the governor to be humble and listen to the people.
“Congratulations! @MohamedAKhalif
Asante for coming out from behind the shadows of the MCAs to throw stones at
us. Unfortunately, criticisms of your administration's performance will now be
enhanced. It's a right that as residents of Mandera, we are not about to
forfeit," the former senator said.
“Trust me, we are not brokers nor gatekeepers for anyone. Alhamdulillah, as a Senator, I held the then-governor to account as my duty. Luckily, as his project, the current Senator probably has your back covered. Kindly learn to listen with humility.”
In response, Governor Adan said Senator Billow doesn’t know who he is dealing with.
He insisted that he has never been anybody’s project and him becoming governor was solely on merit, having previously served Mandera as Councillor, Mayor and Speaker of the County Assembly.
“@BillowKerrow, bring it on. I am not the type of person who hides behind shadows. I doubt whether you understand the person you are dealing with. For sure, in matters of Mandera Politics, I have never been nor will ever be anybody's project. I had the privilege to serve the great people of Mandera for 15 years uninterrupted before devolution and 5 years after devolution as the speaker of the Mandera County Assembly, thanks to the people of Mandera.
“As you enhance your rhetoric, remember to put on heavy armour and shock absorbers, as I will expose the dark side of your leadership as a one-term MP for Mandera Central to Kenyans,” Governor Adan said.
Billow in another post on X said he wished the governor would respond as quickly to accountability questions raised by residents as he had responded to him on social media.
