The office of the Attorney General and Department of Justice has advertised 168 job vacancies in various offices.
These include 30 posts for Office Assistant III, 78 posts for State Counsel, 30 posts for Assistant Office Administrator III and 30 posts for Legal Clerk Assistant IV.
The AG stated that the requirement for Office Assistant III is a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education Mean Grade D.
The successful candidate will work under the guidance of a senior officer.
Duties will entail cleaning offices, machines/equipment/apparatus; maintaining general cleanliness around offices by collection and disposal of litter; collecting and disposing waste including papers and ensure general proper sanitation.
They will also be required to dust the office and ensure habitable office conditions; move or carry office equipment, furniture and ensure orderly arrangement; dispatch letters and files; and carry out photocopying, scanning, binding and lamination.
As State Counsel, the officers will work under the guidance of a senior officer and may be deployed to any of the technical divisions which include civil litigation, legislative drafting, justice and constitutional affairs, public legal services, government legal services, advocates complaints commission and regional offices.
The requirement for this post is a Bachelor of Laws degree (LLB) from a recognised institution, a Postgraduate Diploma in Law from Kenya School of Law, they should have been admitted as an advocate of the High Court of Kenya, met the requirements of Chapter six of the Constitution and proficiency in computer application.
For the Assistant Office Administrator III, the officer will work under the guidance of a senior officer.
The duties and responsibilities will entail taking oral dictation, processing word and data from manuscript, operating office equipment, ensuring security of the office equipment, documents and records.
Other responsibilities include attending to visitors/clients, handling telephone calls and appointments, keeping an up to date filing system in the office, supervising office cleanliness and undertaking any other office administrative services /duties that maybe assigned.
Applicants to the post must have a KCSE Mean Grade C- (minus) with at least C (plain) in English or
Kiswahili Language or its equivalent qualification from recognised institution.
They should possess a Diploma in Secretarial Studies from the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC).
The alternative to the diploma is a Business Education Single and Group Certificates (BES & GC) from the Kenya National Council in typewriting III (50 w.p.m.) / Computerized Document Processing III, shorthand II (80 w.p.m.), Business English II/ Communications I, Office Practice II, Secretarial Duties II, Commerce II. Office Management III/ Office Administration and Management III and Certificate in Computer Applications from a recognised institution.
Further, for the legal clerk assistant IV, the AG said their duties will include recording and filing processes in registers, maintaining the registers, service of documents issued by courts, preparation of returns/affidavits of service and management of the Legal Clerk movement register.
They will also be tasked to ensuring that all court processes are served in accordance with the provision of the law, executing warrants of arrest and enforcing various court orders.
Applicants must have a KCSE mean grade C- (minus) or its recognised equivalent, they must meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya, have a certificate of proficiency in computer applications from a recognised institution and a certificate of good conduct from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation.
The AG said demonstration of competence in Process service and Valid Process Server Certificate from the High Court of Kenya will be an added advantage.
