Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has affirmed that he now has enough time for himself and others days after impeachment.

The former DP said that when he was in office, he didn't find time to read the Bible and interact with religious leaders.

He said that the positive side of his impeachment is him having the time to interact with friends and family members.

“What has happened to us in leaving office, at least the positive thing is now we have enough time for friends. Everything that happens has a bad and a good side. We have a lot of time for friends, and friends are very important. Genuine ones are not many,” Gachagua said.

The DP assured that he now has enough time to visit his friends and spend time with religious leaders.

He spoke on Tuesday during the interment service of his Lucy Wambui Ng'ang'a, who died after undergoing cosmetic surgery in Nairobi.

“I did not have time to read the Bible, looking at interpretations and now we shall be able to do that all the time,” he added.

In a post on November 1, Gachagua shared a photo with his family at his Mathira home.

"Home Sweet Home! Thanking God for the gift of my family. The smell of fresh grass, sounds of chirping birds is what a happy family needs,” he wrote as shared a picture of his family, including his wife Pastor Dorcas and their two sons.

He said he will forever remain grateful to God for giving him a loving and supportive family.

"We are happy to be home, where I was born and brought up," he said, adding he could not wait for the morning to take his signature walk-in Hombe Forest to enjoy the beautiful scenery of Mt Kenya.

Gachagua was impeached by the National Assembly and in a historic move; the Senate upheld the impeachment and voted to remove him from office.

The outcome of the vote was the first time in the history of Kenya that the holder of the Office of the Deputy President has ceased to hold office through a trial borne out of impeachment proceedings.

The 67 lawmakers of the Senate found the DP guilty on five grounds but absolved him on six charges.
