Kamala Harris supporters leaving the HQs in Washington DC on early Wednesday, November 6, 2024.

Supporters of Vice President Kamala Harris have left her campaign Headquarters in Washington, DC even as his rival Donald Trump appears to be on the verge of victory.

Shortly before they left, Kamala’s campaign co-chair took to the stage and thanked the supporters.

He also informed them that Harris would address them on Wednesday.

“Kamala Harris will be here tomorrow to address not only the HQ family but to address the nation. Thank you, we believe in you and may God bless you and keep you,” he said.

“Go HQ, go Harris!”

Following the address, many of the supporters began to leave.

With former President Donald Trump leading, Harris will need votes from the swing states of Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Michigan to win the race

The states have 10, 19 and 15 Electoral Colleges respectively.

A swing state is one where the two major political parties (Republicans and Democrats) have similar levels of support among voters.

An Electoral College is a group of presidential electors that is formed every four years during the presidential elections for the sole purpose of voting for the president and vice president.

Trump has won several swing states,  including Georgia, which has 16 Electoral Colleges.

He has also won North Carolina which has 16 Electoral Colleges.

Trump is expected to speak on Tuesday night to address his supporters at the Headquarters in Florida.

There are five more battlegrounds to be projected. Besides the aforementioned, there are Arizona and Nevada.

To win the race, either Harris or Trump will have to get 270 votes or more.

According to BBC, this time, the knife-edge race in many states could complicate how quickly media outlets project a winner.

Narrow victories could also mean recounts.

BBC says in the key swing state of Pennsylvania, for example, a recount would be required if there’s a half-percentage-point difference between the votes cast for the winner and loser.

In 2020, the margin was just over 1.1 percentage points.
