The outgoing US Ambassador to Kenya Meg Whitman has expressed her gratitude to Kenyans as she exists the country.

Whitman through a video posted on her X account said it had been an honour serving as the US Ambassador to Kenya.

She said since she landed in the country in August 2022, she had interacted with a lot of people and made a number of friends.

"As I close my time at the Embassy, I want to take a moment to say Asante sana to all the incredible friends I have made in Kenya," she said.

She said since arriving in August 2022, she has been able to travel to 28 counties and has seen firsthand how the US and Kenya are working together to build a stronger future for the two countries.

"Whenever I went around the country, I met amazing Kenyans working hard to create jobs, improve healthcare, build a stronger democracy and strengthen ties between Kenyans and Americans who form the bedrock of our successful partnership," she said.

Whitman said had the privilege of sharing Kenya's inspiring stories with Americans back home, connecting with US business leaders looking to invest in the silicon savanna, and participating in what she termed as the historic Whitehouse visit with President William Ruto.

"I began my term as an ambassador giving speeches, posing the question, why Africa, why Kenya? Well, nobody is asking that anymore, the word is out of Kenya's potential," Whitman said.

"There is so much that I will always treasure about my time in Kenya, from the beautiful landscapes to the dynamic economy but most of all I will remember the people of Kenya who welcomed me with unparalleled hospitality and showed me the passion for building a stronger US Kenya relationship."

"I am thankful I had the opportunity to serve as the US Ambassador to Kenya and for the lasting friendships I have made along the way, Asante Sana!" she concluded.
