Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) CEO Ezekiel Mutua has dismissed a notice claiming he has been suspended from office.

Speaking to the Star on Monday morning, Mutua said the notice circulating on social media should be treated with the caution it deserves.

Mutua described the notice as fake saying it was drafted by people who are opposed to his bid to enforce compliance with the law at the society.

“There is no suspension. CEOs are not suspended on a weekend,” he said.

"Let me therefore set the record straight: I am in office and I have neither been sacked nor suspended."

Mutua admitted that while there are leadership wrangles in MCSK, they only touch on the Directors who hold elected non-executive positions.

"The CEO and staff are not elected and there are clear procedures for disciplinary actions. The only crime I have committed against these people is to bar them from getting into the office without following the right procedure.

MCSK National Chairperson Lazarus Muli in a statement termed the notice as “insidious propaganda".

He stated that the material was being circulated by people with ill motives.

Muli said Mutua and his team have brought change in the industry which had been held hostage by people advancing their interests.

He acknowledged that the move is bound to attract enemies even as he assured that the Society’s leadership remains fully behind the CEO and his team.

Muli said appropriate action is being taken against the authors of the documents to ensure that they face the law for defamation and spreading falsehoods.

“In the meantime, our members and stakeholders can rest assured that Mutua is in charge and the MCSK leadership is fully behind him,” he said.

“This is therefore to request MCSK members and stakeholders to dismiss the propaganda being peddled with the contempt it deserves”.

The notice in question had claimed that Mutua had been suspended and was not allowed to conduct businesses related to the society.

“This is to inform the general public, stakeholders and our esteemed members that Ezekiel Mutua (whose photo appears above), has been suspended and is NOT allowed to conduct business on behalf of MCSK,” it read in part.
