The DCI said in a statement the suspects were arrested at a police roadblock during an operation.
He said the officers were manning the roadblock at Hospital junction along the Marsabit-Isiolo road at 1.30am when they flagged down a Mitsubishi Fuso lorry.
"On conducting a search, the officers discovered a concealed brown bag containing the following: 142 rounds of 7.62×39 special (used in AK 47 rifles), 16 rounds of 9mm (used mostly in pistols), a rifle cleaning kit, two pairs of military boots, a ground sheet, a military camelbak, military trousers, tactical and combat shirts among other items," the DCI said.
He said the four suspects, two aged 28, one aged 20, and the youngest aged 18, were were arrested, and detained at the Isiolo Police station. A lorry was also impounded.
The suspects are being interrogated by a multi-agency team as part of the investigations, the DCI said.
The arrest of the four suspects is the latest of several others in recent days that saw officers corner suspected drug traffickers and robbers.
Earlier on Thursday, police in Kijabe were on the prowl of a gang of three robbery suspects who accosted a motorist Wednesday night at a bridge along the Old Kijabe Road, and robbed him of Sh70,000, a Samsung Galaxy S22 and several credit cards.
The DCI said the suspects were armed with machetes and a pipe range.
"Amidst death threats, the victim cooperated by surrendering all the valuables he had, including revealing his Mpesa pin where the thugs transferred Sh70,000," the DCI said.
On November 25, two suspects were arrested at a petrol station within Ruiru subcounty near the Eastern Bypass and found with nine pellets of cocaine weighing about 180g and several rolls of bhang in their car.
Detectives believe they were waiting for a potential buyer.
"On interrogation, it was established that the two were peddling the freebase at Sh2,800 per gram, hence looked forward to Sh504,000 from the sales," the DCI said.
