In Summary
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission has been honoured for outstanding financial management and reporting, which culminated in an unqualified audit opinion by the Office of the Auditor General in the 2023-24 financial year.
The Financial Reporting Award (FiRe Award) is now in its 22nd year.
The award is a joint initiative of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK), Capital Markets Authority (CMA), Nairobi Security Exchange (NSE) and the Public Sector Accounting Standards Board (PSASB), cumulatively referred to as Promoters (of the Award).
The FiRe Award is designed to promote excellence in financial management and corporate reporting and is given to institutions that demonstrate integrity, transparency and accountability in their financial operations.
The Certificate of Recognition for EACC was received by the Commission's Director of Finance and Planning, CPA Joel Mukumu, on behalf of CEO Twalib Mbarak.
Mukumu attributed the recognition to strong financial controls and integrity of EACC staff, which he said have consistently enabled the commission to receive a favourable audit opinion from the Office of the Auditor General.
He said that EACC expects accounting officers of all public institutions to discharge their responsibility of ensuring strict adherence to the prevailing public finance management laws and regulations laws to prevent theft of public funds under their care and control.
“The commission recognises its enormous responsibility in the protection of public funds and will continue to lead by example in the maintenance of strong internal controls and compliance with the established public financial management and reporting frameworks,” Mukumu said.
The award ceremony was held at Safari Park hotel in Nairobi on Friday, December 6, 2024.
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) is a public body established under Section 3 (1) of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2011.
The commission consists of a chairperson and four other members appointed according to the provisions of the constitution and Section 4 of the EACC Act.
The commission has a Secretariat, headed by the secretary/chief executive officer (CEO) to the commission.
