Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is the most searched personality in Kenya, this is according to Google’s Year in Search report released on Tuesday.
He is closely followed by Tourism and Wildlife CS Rebecca Miano and her Defence
counterpart Soipan Tuya.
National Intelligence Service (NIS) Director General Noordin Haji ranked fourth in the most searched persons as Deputy President Kithure Kindiki closed the five most searched personalities in Kenya.
“In the personalities category, the top trending local personalities list is led by the former Deputy President Gachagua, after his impeachment became a national topic of debate,” Google said.
Journalist Robert Nagila, Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza, Businessman turned Politician Jimi Wanjigi, Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi and Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse closed the top ten most searched personalities in Kenya.
Mutuse is the MP who successfully tabled the motion to impeach former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Google’s Year in Search is an annual analysis that reveals the top trending lists and also spotlights what the world searches to see, learn and do.
It offers a glimpse into the interests that captured Kenyans throughout the year.
In the most searched news The Social Health Authority (SHA), a new healthcare system launched to replace the now defunct National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) as the primary healthcare provider for Kenyans captured the interest of Kenyans.
Kenyans also searched for Finance Bill 2024, which President William Ruto declined to sign into law following mass protests in the country.
“The US Elections 2024 was third place on the top trending news in Kenya this year.”
The death of Brian Chira, a content creator who died in a hit-and-run accident in March, was the most searched loss by Kenyans.
Chira’s death sparked widespread mourning among his fans, friends, and family, with thousands attending his funeral to honour his memory and celebrate his impact as a content creator.
Renowned actor, director, scriptwriter, and singer Charles Ouda, who made significant contributions to the entertainment industry was second in this category as journalist Rita Tinina’s death followed.
