Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen) PLC, has been honoured with the Marketing Campaign of the Year Award for its groundbreaking “JenGa KenGen, Inua Mapato” initiative.

The recognition was announced on December 9, 2024, during the prestigious Africa Renewable Energy Awards.

KenGen says the award underscores it’s innovative strides under its ambitious 10-year Good to Great (G2G) strategy.

Launched in 2024 as the year’s corporate theme, “JenGa KenGen, Inua Mapato” has been a rallying call for KenGen employees to collaborate and create sustainable business models that uplift revenues and strengthen shareholder value.

Translating to “uplifting revenues,” the campaign reflects KenGen’s focus on fostering innovation and accelerating the adoption of renewable energy solutions.

The campaign is designed to evolve over three years, introducing annual sub-themes to address emerging insights and sector challenges.

According to KenGen, the adaptive approach ensures KenGen remains at the forefront of the dynamic energy landscape while strategically diversifying its revenue streams.

The initiative has already delivered remarkable outcomes, from boosting public awareness of clean energy benefits to fostering stronger stakeholder engagement and driving profitability.

KenGen’s excellence extended beyond marketing, with Patrick Gikunju, Assistant Manager, Quality & Safety—Geothermal, receiving the Health and Safety Champion Award.

Gikunju was commended for his unwavering commitment to safeguarding people, communities, and the environment, setting new benchmarks for health and safety leadership.

“These accolades are a testament to our commitment to innovation, safety, and sustainable development,” said Eng. Peter Njenga, Managing Director & CEO of KenGen.

“As we advance our G2G strategy, these milestones inspire us to continue shaping a resilient and prosperous future.”

Speaking about his recognition, Gikunju highlighted the importance of embedding safety within organizational culture.

“Safety begins with individual responsibility but thrives on strong leadership. When leaders champion integrity, teamwork, and professionalism, we create the foundation for sustainable success,” he said.

The Annual Africa Renewable Energy Awards celebrates exemplary achievements in renewable energy across the continent, spotlighting contributions in Geothermal, Solar, Wind, Hydro, and Bioenergy. This year’s ceremony emphasized sustainability, economic growth, and inclusive participation in the energy sector.

KenGen says the latest honours reaffirm its leadership in renewable energy, underscoring its commitment to powering communities and creating lasting impact for future generations.
