Deputy President Prof Kithure Kindiki has commended President William Ruto for taking the lead in uniting the country.
Kindiki particularly applauded Ruto for reaching out to former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
He said the country's progress will be faster as all Kenyans will be focused on the same goal.
The DP insisted that even as the government works towards the development of the country, this must be done in honour of past and future generations.
"As you lead us in the transformation and progress of our country, at this moment, we applaud you for realizing that Kenya's progress will be faster if the country is united. Thank you for reaching out to as many stakeholders as possible, to bring everyone on the table so that we can all pull in one direction of making sure that our country moves to the next level.
“We applaud you for reaching out to the former Prime Minister for the establishment of the broad-based government, and we thank you for reaching out to the former President Uhuru Kenyatta and making sure that going forward, all of us, every stakeholder, is on the table as we decide the destiny of our country and as we lift the weights that we must lift in honour of the previous generation, and also in honour of the generations to come,” Kindiki said during the Jamhuri Day celebrations held at Uhuru Gardens, Nairobi.
His remarks come barely a week after President William Ruto held a private meeting with retired President Uhuru Kenyatta at his home in Ichaweri, Gatundu.
It was the first time the two leaders were meeting privately since the 2022 elections. After the meeting, Kindiki also said that it was a great decision for the stability of the country.
Ruto deputized Uhuru for two terms but they parted ways in the 2022 elections, with the former president supporting Raila’s candidature.
Ruto had earlier in the year reached out to Raila following the Gen Z anti-state protests and they agreed to work together.
Following their deal, at least five members of Raila’s Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party were appointed to the Cabinet.
