The first, second, and third groups of Kenyan workers heading to Qatar have all arrived safely in Doha, Labour Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua has confirmed.
Mutua said upon their landing, they were warmly received by their employing agencies and government officials at the airport and swiftly facilitated to their respective destinations.
He noted that the fourth and final group, which departed Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on Saturday, has also arrived safely, marking the successful completion of the current phase of deployment.
“Over the past few days, a total of 300 Kenyan workers have made this transformative journey. The first group of 30 left Nairobi two days ago, followed by the second group of 28 and the third group of 80 on Thursday,” he said.
“This morning, the final group of 145 arrived safely and is now settling into their new environments, prepared to begin working and gaining valuable skills.”
Mutua noted that the dynamic and determined individuals embody the Kenyan spirit of resilience and hard work.
He added that the workers are elated to not only transform their lives but also contribute to Kenya’s development through remittances and the expertise they will eventually bring back home.
CS Mutua said the program reflects the government’s dedication to empowering youth and addressing unemployment in Kenya.
“This achievement demonstrates H.E. President William Ruto’s government’s unwavering commitment to creating secure, meaningful, and dignified labour opportunities abroad while ensuring the safety and well-being of all workers,” he said.
Speaking during the Jamhuri Day on Thursday, Ruto emphasised his administration's commitment to improving Kenya's economy through job creation.
He noted that the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) prioritises reducing the cost of living through drivers such as job creation.
As part of his Jamhuri Day 2024 celebration promise, Ruto
pledged to secure two million jobs abroad for Kenyans.
