Sports Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has been nominated to be the Interior Cabinet Secretary.

President William Ruto nominated Murkomen in the new changes.

Cabinet Secretary for Investments, Trade and Industry Salim Mvurya has been nominated to the Sports docket to replace Murkomen.

"His Excellency the President has today made nominations, re-assignments and appointments to the senior ranks of the Executive. The nominations effected are in regard to individuals to serve the Nation in its foremost policy organ - Cabinet - as well as in the Foreign Service. The Head of State and Government's Executive Action re-aligns Ministries, State Departments, and Kenya's Foreign Service to optimize performance and enhance service delivery as set out in the Administration's revitalized plan under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA)," read a circular signed by the Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service Felix Koskei on Thursday

After his appointment to the Sports Ministry, Murkomen pledges to serve Kenyans with humility and accountability.

"Subject to my approval by Parliament, I pledge to serve the people of Kenya diligently, with great humility and unwavering accountability. Thank you very much. God bless you and God bless Kenya," he added.

He is also the former Cabinet Secretary for Roads, Transport, and Public Works. Murkomen is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and a three-time elected Senator of Elgeyo Marakwet County.

He served for 21 months as a Roads and Transport Cabinet. Murkomen was first elected as Senator for Elgeyo-Marakwet County in 2013 on a United Republican Party (URP) ticket.

He vied for the same seat during the 2017 elections, this time on a Jubilee party ticket and was re-elected to a second term.

Murkomen was elected majority senate leader in 2013, but he was later replaced by West Pokot Senator Samuel Poghisio as the Senate Majority Leader in 2020.
