South B Member of County Assembly Waithera Chege has put on notice land grabbers who she claims are encroaching on public land.

Speaking during an end-of-year thanksgiving service held in South B on Saturday, the county legislator warned the said land grabbers for allegedly collaborating with fraudsters to illegally grab public land in her ward.

“Nobody is bigger than the residents of South B, we will fight to protect public land from being grabbed and I am putting on notice the land grabbers. All grabbed public lands must be returned,” the MCA stated.

Waithera pledged her commitment to reclaim all grabbed pieces of land in the area.

“As long as I’m the Member of County Assembly here, all grabbed public lands must be returned to the area residents,” she said.

The Member of County Assembly further urged the Ministry of Lands to ensure that public lands have been protected from grabbers.

This comes barely a week after Lands Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome issued a stern warning to those encroaching on public land saying they will face the full force of the law.

Speaking at Manguo wetland in Nyahururu sub-county, CS Wahome said it did not matter how long the land has been grabbed saying they will recover what belongs to the government.

“Those who are used to terrorizing innocent citizens in the lands with fake title deeds, the law will catch up with you,” CS Wahome warned.

The CS lamented the grabbers have gone to the extent of grabbing land belonging to police stations.

Wahome, while leading tree planting exercises at the Manguo wetland, also cautioned officials especially those who were involved in the production of fake title deeds indicating that their days were numbered.

CS Wahome further noted that, as a way of curbing public land encroachment and grabbing, the government had begun issuing title deeds to all public schools, while directing all land Registrars to facilitate such processes.
