Embakasi East MP Babu Owino

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has said that he is not afraid of leaving the Orange Democratic Movement party.

He said this is despite receiving threats from certain individuals within the Orange party for refusing to support President William Ruto.

The ODM party under Raila Odinga's leadership entered a pact with the government resulting in the incorporation of some of his lieutenants in the Kenya Kwanza Cabinet, a move largely credited for quelling the Gen Z-led anti-government protests.

Babu said that he has been clear with Raila that he won't support an administration that he feels is unfair to the people, a stance he says has been the source of his troubles.

The MP, however, said that he is not afraid of being chased out of the party and will not live in fear over the issue.

“I was campaigning for Raila but I told Baba that I will not support a government that is unfair to the people of Kenya. I was told I have 'grown horns' and I will be chased away in 2027.

“I'm not afraid of being kicked out of ODM. Even if they chase me away from the party, is there a problem? he posed.

"Should I live in fear because of threats that I will be chased away in 2027?”

Babu spoke during a meeting with his constituents in Mihang’o, Kayole.

In a video seen by the Star, the MP said that he was elected by residents of Embakasi East and that it is only God who chooses leaders.

“I came to this town from Nyalenda (Kisumu) and it is you people who elected me with God's guidance. It is God who choses leaders.”

The legislator said his respect for the former Prime Minister will continue to be there because he is his political mentor.

He further called on all Kenyans to support Raila’s bid to become the next African Union Commission chairman.

Babu said that while he has his weaknesses, Raila also has his strengths and it is important that Kenyans pray for him to get the seat.

“We will not fear anyone and we will respect Raila Odinga as our political father. He has tried so hard and now we want God to bless him to become the AUC chairman so he can also live in peace. He has his strengths and weaknesses but let us pray for him as one of us,” he stressed.
