The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced
the closure of a section of the Southern Bypass for the next two weeks.
The closure will affect the section both sides of the road from the Ole Sereni Interchange to the Ngong Road Interchange.
The closure according to KeNHA is to facilitate rehabilitation of the expansion joints of all the bridges along the closed section.
It will also allow for the reconstruction of concrete pavement of the Virtual Weighbridge.
“This is to enable the rehabilitation of the expansion joints of all the bridges along the closed section as well as reconstruction of concrete pavement of the Virtual Weighbridge. The closure will commence on Tuesday December 24, 2024, at 8.00 pm to Sunday January 5, 2025 Midnight,” the Authority said.
KeNHA added that all traffic will be diverted through Mombasa Road, Lang'ata Road and Ngong Road as alternative routes during the closure period.
The authority has further urged motorists to exercise caution and adhere to the traffic management plan put in place.
“Motorists are requested to exercise caution around the work areas, to follow the proposed traffic management plan below and cooperate with the police and traffic marshals on site.”
This comes a few months after the authority said that it is considering introducing a tolling policy for some key roads across the country.
KeNHA, however, said that the policy will be rolled out after going through adequate public publication.
The highways authority said that some of the critical roads that it will be presenting for consideration include the Nairobi Southern Bypass and the Nairobi-Nakuru-Mau Summit Highway.
