Former Nominated Senator Milicent Omanga has said most parts of Nairobi county are lagging behind in terms of development because of electing bad leaders.
Omanga, who declined President William Ruto’s appointment to the Nairobi Rivers Commission citing personal reasons, called on the electorate to consider electing leaders who will focus on improving their welfare in the next polls.
“We have really suffered because we elected leaders who do not come to the ground, they don’t know the challenges facing us. We will announce our next course of action,” Omanga said.
She added “This time round we must be wise when we go to the polls. Let us not elect leaders based on their affiliations but what they can do to improve our welfare.”
Speaking during an end-of-year thanksgiving service held in South B, Nairobi, the former CAS further cautioned leaders against neglecting people who elected them to office.
South B MCA, Waithera Chege, who spoke at the same event urged parents to take good care of their children during the festive season and ensure that they do not involve themselves in drug use.
“Parents please don’t neglect your children. Don’t leave them in the hands of drug dealers. In the new year, authorities will arrest parents who will not release their children to join school,” she warned.
Omanga took to social media to explain why she declined her appointment in the Nairobi River Commission.
“I’m deeply honoured and grateful to President William Ruto for the trust you’ve shown in appointing me to serve on the Nairobi Rivers Commission,” she wrote on her X account.
“It’s truly a privilege to be considered for such a vital role in improving our beloved Nairobi’s environment and public health.
“I remain committed to supporting efforts aimed at restoring Nairobi’s rivers and stand ready to contribute in any capacity that aligns with my current commitments,” Omanga said in the statement.
