Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Sunday graced the Cleo Malala 6th Edition Supercup at Lions Stadium in Kakamega County.
Gachagua noted that football is much more than just a sport, stating that it is a powerful tool for community building and social change.
"By bringing people together, promoting healthy lifestyles, and creating opportunities for personal growth, football has the power to strengthen communities and enhance the quality of life for individuals," he said.
In attendance at the game hosted by former Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala was DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa, Kirinyaga Senator James Murango, Kirinyaga Woman Rep Jane Maina, Roysambu MP Kamande Mwafrika along other leaders.
Gachagua had attended an interview before the game. The former DP discussed issues on governance and the recent spate of abductions in the country.
He said the recent meeting between President William Ruto and retired President Uhuru Kenyatta was in order.
“As far as I am concerned, a meeting between two leaders is good,” he stated.
Gachagua nonetheless downplayed the meeting’s impact on the leadership or political landscape of the country.
“He is a retired President and we have not seen him participate in
politics. I have not heard Uhuru saying he is interested in leading this
country,” he added.
