Political activist Morara Kebaso
Political activist Morara Kebaso has affirmed that he is nobody’s project.
Speaking in an interview with NTV aired on Wednesday, Kebaso said he is an independent leader, only fighting for the interests of Kenyans.
“I am not anybody’s project and I have never thought of being anybody’s project. I am my own man made by the Kenyans who stand with me,” he said.
Kebaso added that he sees no need to consolidate the youth vote for the purpose of selling it to any candidate, stating that with the young people’s votes, he is as good as a president.
He however noted that he may have to work with other like-minded leaders, asking them to trust him to make good decisions.
He advised his critics, who believe that he is another person’s project, to take note of his actions.
“All I can tell them is why not wait. Consistency is what is going to define projects and non-projects,” he said.
“Those who will be left working consistently are the true defenders of our nation and those who will drop off will be the conmen.”
Kebaso rose to fame for traversing around the country and exposing pending projects as he held the government accountable.
He would dress up like, and imitate President William Ruto even as he documented his “previously on vampire diaries…” videos on the stalling projects.
Speaking in the interview, Kebaso estimated the amount of money spent in the same as Sh6 million, which he and other Kenyans raised.
In September, Raila Odinga's staunch supporter Nuru Okanga accused Kebaso of being a state project.
Okanga claimed that the Kenya Kwanza administration could have been supporting the activist to distract Kenyans from the real issues affecting the country.
He also criticised Kebaso for frequently appealing to the public for financial support, particularly to fuel his car.
He expressed frustration that while Kebaso has backing from Kenyans, Okanga is labelled a beggar when he asks for similar support.
"Gen Z staged protests, and Raila joined the government. The protests cooled down, and Morara immediately emerged. How do we know if Morara is Ruto and Sylvanus Osoro’s project to divert attention from the real issues facing the country?" Okanga asked then.
