Labour Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua has announced the recruitment of 10,000 Kenyans for Dubai’s construction industry.

The recruitment will be held on Friday, January 3, and Saturday, January 4, at Kenya Coast National Polytechnic from 8am to 5pm.

“The available jobs included steel fixers, masons, scaffolders, carpenters, waterproofing technicians and general workers,” he said on Thursday.

The CS directed interested persons to bring with them certificates and any relevant documentation, appropriate clothing for practical assessments.

Mutua said the successful candidates will receive on-the-spot offer letters.

He added that after a three-day medical and processing period, successful applicants will be issued visas.

The CS said the travel arrangements will be completed within days after visa issuance.

The CS assured those without passports that expedited issuance will be facilitated for successful candidates.

He stated that to make the opportunity accessible, he has negotiated reduced and affordable costs.

“Successful candidates will cater for their tickets, medical and minor processing fees,” he added.

The CS said the salaries will range from Sh33,000 to Sh60,000 - tax-free.

He noted that there will be free accommodation, transport, food and medical care.

“This is a life-changing opportunity. Come and try your luck! Mbele iko sawa,” he said.

The process of the construction workers begun in Nairobi at Kabete National Polytechnic and in Nyeri National Polytechnic in December 2024.

The government has rolled out an aggressive campaign to secure jobs for Kenyans abroad despite criticism.

In November, CS Mutua lamented that there are over five million youths who are unemployed in the country and the government was trying to work out different strategies to address the high youth employment.

He said some of the available job opportunities include nursing, gardeners, plant operators, chefs, security guards and housemaids, among many others.

Critics have blasted the government for prioritising menial jobs for Kenyans abroad instead for securing formal employment.
