Cartoonist Gideon Kibet "Bull" has been released by his alleged abductors after he was reportedly abducted two weeks ago.

In a social media post on his X account, the cartoonist said that he was dropped in Luanda Vihiga County at dawn on Monday.

"They dropped me in Luanda Vihiga at 3-4 am today. I did not know where to go or where to book a room," he said.

His mother, Caroline Mutai, confirmed Kibet's release by his alleged abductors.

"They told me, mom, I am in Nakuru; the festive season was tough for me because I was crying for my son. I prayed to God to help me get my sons back. I am happy now," Caroline Mutai said.

On his part, Kebet said, "I found myself today at Luanda at around 3–4 am. I looked for a place to stay until morning for my own safety because I did not know anyone or the place,” he said.

Kibet said that he decided to tweet on X to inform Kenyans that he is safe and heading home. He further added that he will reduce his presence on social media.

Activist Hussein Khalid has earlier confirmed Kibet's release, saying the cartoonist was on his way home from Vihiga.

"Our team@VOCALAfrica has confirmed that @Kibet_bull has been released and is on his way home. This is according to his sister Mercy, who spoke to @Honeyfarsafi. This makes Kibet Bull the fifth abductee to be released today. We push for the release of all," he said.

CNN correspondent Larry Madowo also confirmed that Kibet has been freed by his alleged abductors.

"Cartoonist Gideon Kibet Bull has been released today after getting abducted on Christmas Eve. I’ve spoken to him and confirmed that he is free. He has also been in contact with his family

This comes against the backdrop of claims of abduction cases in the country.

On Monday, two more youths who had been allegedly abducted in December were found alive.

This increased to four the number of those so far released by alleged abductors.

The families of Billy Mwangi, Peter Muteti, Bernard Kavuli and Rony Kiplangat said their kin had contacted them.

Mwangi and Muteti had met their families physically.

Officials said Rony was found in Machakos County, and Bernard Kavuli, who was abducted in Ngong, was found in Kitale.

They were struggling to reach their families.

Peter Muteti was found in Nairobi CBD, and witnesses said he was disoriented and now recovering from home.

Human rights activists planned a protest on Monday, January 6, to denounce abduction and forced disappearance.

Police were deployed to various places to address the threats to hold the protests.

Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja had been ordered to appear in court on January 8 to explain the whereabouts of the individuals.

The Director of Public Prosecutions, Mulele Ingonga, directed the police to inform him of the status of investigations into claims of abductions and forced disappearances by January 1, 2025.

He cited the cases of Steve Mbisi, Billy Mwangi, Peter Muteti, Bernard Kavuli, Rony Kiplang'at, and recently cartoonist Gideon Kibet, alias Kibet Bull.

He said he is concerned with reports of abductions and forced disappearances in the country, hence the need for the probe.
