Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi's statement on abductions has sparked massive reactions among Kenyans.
Speaking during an interview with Citizen TV on Monday, Bomet Senator Hillary Sigei said the CS’s statement regarding his son's abduction was political rather than a case of a concerned parent.
“You read through the statement that is given, you appreciate where it is coming from but at the same time you read undertones and also not just a concerned parent but a political statement,” he said.
Sigei added that the answers that would be given for such a statement would be in the context of the issue at hand.
“On one hand, the former Attorney General is saying he is a victim, having had his son abducted some six months ago or so,” he said.
“At the same time though, he has been invited and the son has recorded a statement (at the DCI). It is your turn to equally do justice, by the way, cuts both sides.”
Lawyer Ahmednassir Abdullahi noted that Muturi had addressed the important topic of abduction.
“Waziri JB Muturi even shared with us the pain and suffering he went through when his own son was abducted,” he said.
Ahmednassir also appeared to poke holes into the timing of the statement ostensibly saying it should have come on the very period the son was abducted.
The former Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Nelson Havi expressed pride in having created a safe and enabling environment for those in government to speak honestly.
“I am happy that I created the enabling environment for those in Government to speak truthfully. Honourable Justin Muturi has joined the queue. Let it continue growing,” he said.
Lawyer Miguna Miguna said, “Bravo, Justin Muturi. The Titanic is sinking. Jump out now, or you will sink with it".
On Sunday at Serena Hotel, Muturi called for a candid discussion on the ongoing abductions accusing the state of having a hand in the vice.
He said the government cannot presume innocence on the matter that he insists risks plunging the country into anarchy.
"I'm fully aware of the doctrine of collective responsibility, but since I'm also a victim of the abductions and serving in this government I have not gotten any answers, I have taken this unusual step so that the matter can debated honesty and openly as country with a view to finding a lasting solution."
The CS said his son was abducted and disappeared, leaving his family anxious over whether he was still alive or dead.
"It must be remembered that I was the Attorney General of the Republic of Kenya at the time, yet I was unable to trace my son despite making several requests and demands to all levels of the security apparatus,” Muturi said.
