President William Ruto, Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetangula, Prime CS Musalia Mudavadi, Bungoma Governor Ken Lusaka and other key leaders in Cheptais, Mt Elgon for a church service on Sunday, January 19, 2025.
President William Ruto has emphasised that leaders should not incite young Kenyans into violence, saying they should instead seek to grow them.
Speaking during a church service at Cheptais Interdenominational Prayer Service in Bungoma County, Ruto said the youth deserve the best from their parents and leaders – both religious and political.
“Kama wazazi, kama serikali, kama viongozi, tusiwapiganishe watoto wetu. (As parents, the government and leaders, let us not incite our children),” he said.
He said leaders should busy themselves with providing the youths with employment instead of inciting them to actions that will not solve the issues facing the country.
“These young people of Kenya, they don’t need violence or confrontation. They want jobs and opportunities to benefit them.”
He said the young people should grab the job opportunities at ICT hubs, housing programme, county aggregation and industrial parks and the labour migration.
The Head of State also reiterated his commitment to uniting Kenyans and ensuring that no community, region, or group is excluded from national development.
Ruto emphasised the importance of overcoming divisive practices such as ethnic discrimination and hatred to build a cohesive and prosperous nation.
“We must avoid things of hatred, divisiveness, ethnic discrimination, and all those other things,” Ruto stated.
“I want to assure you that my work as the President of Kenya is to encourage unity among all Kenyans, so we can walk together as one people and complete the plans that will transform Kenya.”
The President underscored his administration’s focus on inclusivity, assuring Kenyans that no one would be isolated in the journey toward national progress.
"I want to give assurance to all Kenyans that there's no community that is going to be isolated, there is no region that is going to be isolated, there is no county that is going to be left behind, there is no religion that is going to be left behind, we are going to move together, as one people, as one nation with a common destiny," he added.
