Kenya Power has cautioned Kenyans against falling prey to conmen purporting to be offering jobs.

The utility company has flagged a notice that has been circulating online alleging there are several job opportunities at the company to be filled.

Kenya Power in an update on Friday called on Kenyans to be vigilant and avoid falling prey to such scams.

In the flagged advert, the originators claim that there are 241 job opportunities that are up for grabs.

Some of the listed jobs include maintenance technicians, electrical technicians, financial accountants, customer care representatives, store managers, data entry clerks, security guards, drivers, cleaners and interns.

"The company is pleased to invite applications from qualified and interested Kenyans for the following vacancies across the country," the advert purports.

The advert then directs the interested job seekers to send their applications through an email address provided with February 3 being the deadline for submitting the applications.

Kenya Power however said the advert was fake.

"Beware of conmen. Kaa rada (be vigilant)," Kenya Power said.

The issue of fake job adverts is not new to Kenyans as several companies and state ministries have in the recent past post flagged similar ads.

For instance, in July 2024, the Teachers Service Commission flagged as fake a letter purporting to invite applications for the hiring of primary and Junior Secondary intern teachers.

The letter indicated that the teacher employer was looking to hire 20,000 intern teachers - 18,000 for Junior secondary schools and 2,000 for Primary schools to facilitate the implementation of the competency-based curriculum.

The Ministry of Health also issued an advisory on fake reports that were making rounds on social media about an advertisement for job opportunities.

The poster claimed there are 11,600  data entry clerk jobs at the Social Health Insurance Fund job opportunities.
