Rainfall is expected to continue over several parts of the country in the first half of January 28 to February 3, 2025, the Kenya Meteorological Department (Met) has said.
Met listed the affected areas as the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley and the South-eastern lowlands.
It however stated that most parts of the Coast, North-eastern and Northwestern Kenya are likely to be generally sunny and dry.
Average daytime (maximum) temperatures of more than 30°C will be experienced in the Coast, North-eastern and North-western Kenya.
During the period, average night-time (minimum) temperatures will be less than 10°C in some parts of the Highlands East of the Rift Valley as well as in the North and Central Rift Valley.
Met said the residents of the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin and the Rift Valley should expect morning rains, afternoon and night showers and thunderstorms.
The area covers Nandi, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Siaya, Busia, Baringo, Nakuru, Trans-Nzoia, Uasin-Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, West-Pokot, Kisii, Nyamira, Kericho, Bomet, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori and Narok Counties.
In North-western Kenya (Turkana and Samburu Counties), the weatherman forecast sunny intervals during the day while nights are likely to be partly cloudy.
However, morning rains as well as afternoon and night showers and thunderstorms may occur over a few places during the first half of the forecast period.
In the Highlands East of the Rift Valley (including Nairobi County), morning rains are expected over few places.
There is also a possibility of afternoon and night showers and thunderstorms over a few places occasionally spreading to several places during the first half of the forecast period.
The region covers Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi and Nairobi Counties.
The weatherman said the North-eastern Kenya (Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo Counties), is likely to have sunny intervals during the day while nights are likely to be partly cloudy.
In the South-eastern lowlands (Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado and Taita-Taveta Counties as well as the inland parts of Tana-River County), there is a possibility of morning rains as well as afternoon and night showers and thunderstorms.
The Coast (Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale Counties as well as the coastal parts of Tana River County) will have sunny intervals during the day while nights are likely to be partly cloudy.
However, morning and afternoon showers may occur over a few areas in the South Coast during the first half of the forecast period.
