Narok Senator Ledama Olekina now says that there can only be a united and prosperous Kenya if the country moves from tribal politics.
Ledama insisted that this can only be possible if the leadership of the country is based on merit adding that it is time to reject all forms of retrogressive politics, once and for all.
The Senator added that those stuck in tribal politics will realise that Kenyans have moved steps forward with time.
“When those who perpetuate tribalism, finally awaken from their slumber, they will see that Kenya has already moved forward. It is time for us to reject retrogressive politics once and for all. Our leadership must be grounded in merit, not tribal affiliation. Only then can we truly build a united and prosperous nation,” he said on X.
Ledama, elected on an ODM party ticket, has been vocal about the need to promote proper governance in the country.
President William Ruto has also been on the frontline in his clarion call to end the politics of ethnicity and the marginalisation of others.
Last week, during his week-long tour of the Western region, Ruto said there would be no room for ethnicity in Kenya under his leadership.
He went on to say some of the leaders propagating the same had to leave his administration.
“Kenya belongs to all of us and I will stand firm and there will be no more politics of hatred and division,” he said in Busia.
Ruto noted that he fired his entire Cabinet and reconstituted it in a broad-based structure to reflect the face of Kenya.
He also reached out to his opponent in the 2022 presidential polls Raila Odinga who proposed a list of his loyalists to serve in Ruto's government.
Raila is now vying for the African Union Commission chairmanship having been endorsed by the Kenyan government.
