Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has intensified his 2027 political plans, meeting several aspirants seeking to challenge the allies of his former boss, William Ruto.
Gachagua has vowed to ensure that all MPs and senators who voted to impeach him last year are voted out by the electorate in 2027.
Several aspirants planning to align with his yet-to-be-launched political party have been visiting his Wamunyoro residence to pledge loyalty.
On Thursday, Gachagua held a meeting with a group of 2027 aspirants from Murang’a, Kirinyaga, Kiambu, and Meru counties as he laid the groundwork against his critics.
The former DP stated on his X account that the meeting was part of "our continuous engagement with stakeholders from various parts of our region."
Gachagua said he listened to their views on involving community members in local decision-making processes.
According to him, these meetings aim to establish how leaders can foster a sense of ownership and responsibility among grassroots communities towards initiatives and policies that affect them.
"Very unique perspectives and insights were brought to the table by this team," Gachagua noted.
Some of the aspirants who attended the meeting included city lawyer Ndegwa Njiru, who is reportedly planning to run for the Kirinyaga Senatorial seat. Others were Robert Mburunga (Tigania East Constituency), David Karithi (Tigania West Constituency), Wanjiku Lui (Gatundu South Constituency), and Councillor Kariithi (Chinga Ward, Othaya). Hellen Kigia (Murang’a County) and John Njomo (Ndia Constituency) were also present.
Mukurwe-ini MP John Kaguchia, a key ally of Gachagua, was also in attendance.
The Thursday meeting followed another gathering in which Gachagua hosted select bishops and pastors at his Wamunyoro residence.
He stated that he benefited from their spiritual insights on various national issues.
The former DP said he sought their input on "what the ground is saying regarding the direction we should take as a nation."
Speaking in Nanyuki recently, Gachagua warned that all MPs, senators, and governors from Mount Kenya "who do not listen to the ground" will be defeated in 2027.
"But they still have time to change and stand with the people so that history does not judge them harshly," Gachagua said during a church service.
