Three suspected thieves were separately lynched by a mob in Kisumu and Homabay Counties.
Police warned against the trend of mob lynching and declared they are investigating the same.
The first incident happened when a middle-aged woman was lynched by an angry mob over alleged theft of a one-and-a-half-year-old child in Sindo Town, Suba South, Homa Bay County.
The deceased met the wrath of the mob after she allegedly stole the child and gave her to a motorbike rider to escape with it.
The baby’s mother realised that the child had disappeared, and when she asked the deceased whether she had seen her, she allegedly denied any knowledge of the child’s whereabouts.
This prompted the mother to raise alarm for members of the public who descended on the woman with crude weapons.
The deceased died while receiving treatment at the Suba Subcounty Hospital.
Deputy County Commissioner Beatrice Odira, confirmed the incident and warned the public against taking the law into their hands.
In the second incident, two suspected robbers were attacked and lynched by a mob on Friday night in the Tumaini area of Nyalenda, Kisumu County, following a foiled robbery attempt.
Police and witnesses said three suspects riding on a motorbike, ambushed a female pedestrian, attacking her with a metal rod before snatching her bag and mobile phone.
She raised an alarm and the public responded by chasing the rider. The mob quickly cornered two of the suspects, who were beaten and killed on the spot.
The third accomplice managed to escape the scene on the motorbike, police and witnesses said.
The female victim, who sustained injuries during the incident, was rushed to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH), where she is currently recuperating.
Police have launched a manhunt for the remaining suspect.
Cases of mob lynching have been on the rise amid calls on the public to avoid such.
The police want the public to surrender suspects to them for processing.
