Minority leader Junet Mohamed has asked Kenyans to accord ODM leader Raila Odinga a rousing welcome when he jets back from Addis Ababa.

Raila is in Ethiopia where he travelled to contest the African Union Commission chairmanship seat but lost to Djibouti's Mahmoud Ali Youssouf.

About 100 MPs, several governors and government officials travelled to Addis in a show of solidarity with the Opposition leader passionately referred to as Baba.

The team accompanied President William Ruto and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi who led Kenya's charge in lobbying for Raila's election.

While speaking to the media on Sunday, the legislators thanked the President for standing with Raila all through the course of the campaign and election period.

"I want to thank the President of the Republic of Kenya, His Excellency President William Ruto for the unwavering support him and his government gave this contest of Hon Odinga and AU elections," Junet said.

"To all those who supported, we want to say thank and Baba is extrememly loved," Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo added.

Kisumu Senator Tom Ojienda said even though Raila was the most qualified candidate, they accept the AUC results with grace, affirming that "Raila remains our leader, and his vision for a united and prosperous Kenya endures".

"His unwavering commitment to Kenya's best interests, regardless of the electoral outcome underscores his dedication to national unity and progress. We equally acknowledge President Ruto's resolute support for Odinga’s candidacy, as well as his exemplary display of leadership throughout the process," Ojienda said.

He added: "I foresee in Kenya the union between ODM, UDA and other parties getting even stronger."

Junet said Kenyans should prepare to welcome Raila in style when he touches down at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

"We call upon all Kenyans to prepare to accord his excellency Raila Amollo Odinga a well-deserved rousing welcome upon his return," he said.

In his address to the MPs earlier on, Raila said he was proud of the MPs and other leaders who travelled to Addis Ababa in a show of solidarity.

"I want to begin by thanking all of you. You made me so proud that you travelled all the way from Kenya to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to be with Baba," he said.
