Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has urged President William Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga to continue working together to unite the country.
Kindiki asked them to collaborate and merge their efforts in uniting the country just as they did during the campaigns for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairman position.
“We ask our President, the former PM and all the leaders to continue working together to build a united Kenya, to secure peace and unity of our country,” he said.
“To work together the same way we have been doing for the AUC position.”
The DP was speaking on Sunday during a service at Ntemwene Methodist Church, Imenti South Constituency, Meru county.
Kindiki lauded Ruto and all other African leaders who supported Raila.
But despite concerted efforts, Raila lost to Djibouti's Mahmoud Ali Youssouf after a hotly contested race in Addis Ababa on Saturday.
Kindiki said that even though Kenya did not succeed, it came out strongly because at least 20 African countries backed Raila's bid.
“Our day will come in the future. Even if we didn’t succeed, I pray going forward, all the leaders will work together for the unity so that we move the development of our country to the next level,” he emphasised.
The deputy president also urged the Church to pray for the country, even as the government works towards fulfilling its development agenda.
“We are proud to see the Church working together, the present and past leaders helping society to remain united. It is only that way the Church can be a strong voice in the society,” he added.
“I will soon call a meeting with all the Methodist church leaders and bishops for a meeting at the Karen residence and see how the government can work with the Church, including strengthening Kenya Methodist University.”
Kindiki also revealed that he will meet with the governor, MPs, MCAs and over 3,000 representatives from Meru county on Tuesday at his official residence in Karen.
He said the delegation will comprise representatives from every constituency.
The DP said the meeting is not politics oriented, but will rather focus on development agenda for Meru county.
“It will not be a political meeting. We are discussing development projects for the county of Meru - water, electricity, roads and others,” the DP said.
