Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is mourning the death of Baringo Senator William Cheptumo.
In his message of condolence, Gachagua describes Cheptumo as a distinguished leader and someone who was liked by all.
He noted that they served together at the National Assembly, in the 12th Parliament.
“It is with great sadness that I learnt of the passing of Senator William Cheptumo, a distinguished leader from Baringo County.
“An amiable and likeable gentleman I served with in the 12th Parliament, Senator Cheptumo cut a niche of a brilliant legislator and a sharp legal mind,” the former DP said.
He went on to pray for comfort to the family of the senator and the people of Baringo, even as they come to terms with his death.
“My thoughts and prayers are with the family and the people of Baringo County, and we offer our sincerest sympathy as they navigate this difficult time. May Almighty God rest the Soul of Senator Cheptumo in eternal peace.”
Cheptumo had been unwell for a while over an undisclosed illness.
The UDA party senator was elected to represent Baringo County in the Senate of Kenya in the 2022 General election.
He ousted Kanu party chairman Gideon Moi in the 2022 race.
Before being elected senator, Cheptumo served as a Member of Parliament for Baringo North between 2008 and 2022.
He previously worked as a legal officer for the Central Bank of Kenya and Industrial and Commercial Development Cooperation.
President William Ruto mourned Baringo Senator William Cheptumo as “a progressive leader who was dedicated to public service.”
In a message of condolence, Ruto further said Cheptumo was a vocal, hardworking and tireless champion for the transformation of Baringo.
“The Cheptumo family, friends and the people of Baringo County are in our thoughts and prayers. Rest In Peace, Mheshimiwa,” he said.
