In a statement on Tuesday, the Social Health Authority said they have already made more than Sh8 billion in undisputed NHIF claims.
"As of October 4, 2024, Sh10 billion out of Sh19 billion in undisputed NHIF claims has already been paid," the authority said in a statement sent to newsrooms.
"SHA is working with healthcare providers to finalise NHIF pending claim reconciliations, which are currently 60% complete."
The Social Health Authority further directed that healthcare facilities must provide proof of archived claims to facilitate verification before payments are processed.
SHA also said the reconciliation process between SHA and healthcare providers will continue until all outstanding NHIF debts are conclusively resolved.
The statement from SHA comes in after the hospitals under the Rural and Urban Private Hospitals Associations of Kenya (RUPHA) said they won't accept SHA over outsanding debts owed by the defunct National Health Insuarance Fund (NHIF).
RUPHA said they will only accept cash payments from patients under the Social Health Insuarnce Fund.
RUPHA, which represents faith-based hospitals, alleged that the government owes them Sh30 billion in arrears, a claim that SHA has disputed.
"We wish to clarify that the government does not owe RUPHA Sh30 billion, as asserted," SHA said in a statement on Tuesday.
The Social Health Authority also said a consultative meeting was held on February 24, 2025, between the Ministry of Health and RUPHA leadership, where key resolutions were made to enhance service provision in RUPHA facilities.
"RUPHA facilities will receive training on claim management to improve the accuracy of claim submissions and prevent delays," SHA said.
"We encourage RUPHA members to continue working with SHA to ensure the uninterrupted provision of healthcare services."
