Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has said that the government is working hard to revive the country’s fishing industry.

Speaking in Kilifi, during the commissioning of the 33/11 kV Sabaki Sub-Station, Kindiki said this will ensure fishermen and women have more money in their pockets.

He said other such measures have been extended to other areas that a majority of Kenyans depend on for their livelihoods.

This, he said, includes agriculture to enhance food production in the country.

We are working to revive the fishing industry to make sure there's more income for fisherfolk. We are also reviving agriculture to make sure there is better food production,” Kindiki said.

The government is also constructing fish landing sites in Kilifi at the cost of Sh250 million to facilitate this.

He went on to say that the government is taking every chance it gets to create jobs for youths, including in the digital space.

“We are creating jobs for our young people in the country and abroad through ICT digital jobs. Anywhere we can find a job, we'll create a jobs for the people of Kenya.”

The Deputy President further called for unity, saying that without it the much needed development will not be achieved.

He reiterated that elections are held once in five years and once done the country should be allowed unite and develop.

“We need to stand united as a country. Elections come once every five years. In between elections we have a moment and time to unite and build our country,” Kindiki said.

President William Ruto in his address also reiterated the need to move towards one direction as a country.

He said no one will be left behind in the broad based formation and that all regions in Kenya will be developed.

The two leaders are in the Coast region for a week-long development tour.

The tour started with Mombasa on Monday. On Tuesday the two leaders camped in Kwale county where they launched several projects.

Other leaders accompanied Cabinet Secretaries, Principal Secretaries, and other Senior state officers including Senate Speaker Amason Kingi, and Governor Gideon Mung’aro and a host of MPs.
