People Liberation Party (PLP) leader Martha Karua now says that former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is her brother, just like former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and President William Ruto are, despite being on different political sides.
According to Karua, she is working with Gachagua to save the country from pain.
She said that this makes her and the former deputy president allies.
“Riggy G (Rigathi Gachagua) is a Kenyan, he is my brother just like Ruto is my brother and just like Raila is my brother and we have parted politically," Karua said on Wednesday during an interview with Citizen TV.
“At this moment we are standing in the same place with Riggy G and other leaders, determined to relieve Kenyans of the pain that is on their backs and so to that extent, we are allies."
When asked whether a coalition was in the offing, Karua said it would eventually happen.
She added that currently, it is very difficult to make progress politically without coalitions.
“There will be a coalition. It may not be today, but it is definitely in Kenya. It is now difficult to move forward without working with others," she said.
This comes a few weeks after Karua and Gachagua held talks at Karua’s rural home.
Speaking after the meeting, the former DP said that he would regularly consult Karua going forward.
“We have had a good conversation with Karua and we have agreed going forward we are going to work together with other Kenyans. I want to assure you that many Kenyans are looking for leadership. We will work together with like-minded Kenyans, patriots and people who care for this country,” Gachagua said.
Gachagua expressed joy saying he will be a happy man for uniting with Karua.
He said that Karua has the necessary experience, and courage and will help the Mt Kenya region move forward.
“We shall benefit greatly from her counsel. We will consult her regularly alongside other Kenyans of goodwill so that we can liberate this country," he added.
Karua expressed confidence in the combination of the efforts of the two leaders saying it will be a great force.
She said that every person of goodwill should join hands in demanding accountability.
"Today is a great day. We have joined hands with my brother Gachagua, and a journey of uniting and liberating Kenya has begun. We are going to join with people from different regions and areas in the country," Karua said during the meeting.
