Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo has explained why the Orange Democratic Movement Party decided to work with President William Ruto.
Speaking during an interview with Spice FM on Tuesday, Millie said politics have gray areas, where you have to work with people whose opinion you do not share, to achieve certain goals.
She said this is the reason they chose to work with
Ruto, as they disagreed on policies.
“Sometimes you have to work with the person you don't agree with to meet your goals,” she said.
Millie pointed out that in as much as they did not agree with Ruto because they were political rivals, they have joined him in coming up with solutions for the challenges facing the country.
“We didn't agree with Ruto because we also wanted power but now he's in power. We have said we can come to help you but we cannot leave our values and principles as ODM,” she stated.
She said Ruto has invited ODM to deliberate on the issues, maintaining that they will however not compromise on their trajectory of reform and pro-people.
Millie added that since Ruto was once a member of ODM, they will help him address any missteps.
The MP stated that the broad-based government was not formed.
“Legally we don't have a broad-based government. We have some kind of cooperation,” she said.
Millie’s remarks come a day after Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga clarified that the ODM party is yet to hammer out any deal with the United Democratic Alliance Party, to formalise their partnership.
''So far, ODM and Kenya Kwanza- UDA do not have any formal agreement or documentation that defines our arrangement,'' she said in an interview.
''I think that is why as soon as the party leader (Raila) came back, he began consultations and the consultations are with his supporters.''
Wanga emphasised that the political consultations currently being undertaken by Raila across the country will enable him to get a sense of political direction after the African Union Commission loss.
