Alego Usonga MP Sam Atandi has been elected as chairperson of the National Assembly's Budget and Appropriations Committee unopposed.
He was the only contestant who had submitted his papers at the close of nominations.
Standing Orders require interested members to fill forms to be submitted a day prior to elections.
Presiding clerk said the office received duly filled nominations from Atandi, who was proposed and seconded by Florence Jematia (Baringo WR) and Danson Mwashako (Taveta MP).
Endebess MP Robert Pukose was proposed for vice chairperson by Mulu Makali (Kitui Central) and Atandi.
The rules are that if only one candidate is nominated, the clerk shall formally declare the person elected without any vote.
"I declare Atandi as duly elected as chairperson and Pukose as duly elected vice chairperson," the presiding clerk said.
The position was held by Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro.
He neither defended his seat by the deadline for nominations nor attended the meeting for election.
On assuming the seat, Atandi thanked members of the powerful budget team.
"This is a demanding responsibility. I applaud the broad-based government. We have reached this point because of the broad-based government," the MP said.
"I thank my party leader Raila Odinga and President William Ruto for the idea of the broad-based government," Atandi said.
He said the committee was taking over at a time members are asking questions about the performance of the previous committee.
Atandi pledged to ensure uniform distribution of resources.
"We know the map of the republic of Kenya and know that resource sharing affects peace and stability."
"We will ensure each country is a beneficiary of the resources bestowed upon us," he said.
The MP stated that BAC has a crucial role in budgeting.
"We don't take it for granted that we have been given this role," he said.
Pukose said they will strive to ensure equity in the distribution of resources.
Members congratulated the team and urged for consideration of equity in its endeavours.
