Public Service CS Justin Muturi has opened up on his relationship with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
According to Muturi, Gachagua is not his enemy.
He went on to say that while they have never been so close, they are only political friends.
He said their interactions were mostly at the Cabinet Committees, which the former DP chaired and he attended as Attorney General at the time.
The other interactions, he said, were during the 2022 campaigns, where they went out to seek votes together.
“The former Deputy President, he would chair cabinet committees, and I only met him in those meetings. He was in Kenya Kwanza; we campaigned together. He is not my enemy. He is just there. Political friends just like the other,” Muturi said.
His remarks come hours after his party officially gave notice to leave the ruling Kenya Kwanza Alliance.
While admitting to being aware of the party decision, Muturi did not reveal what direction it was taking.
Earlier, analysts had predicted Muturi’s act of calling out the government as part of his exit strategy from working with President William Ruto.
Others speculated that he could be working with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
However, when asked whether he would resign, Muturi said that would be a cowardly act and that he intends to continue championing for an end to abductions and extrajudicial Killings from within the government.
After leaving government, Gachagua has branded himself as the Mt Kenya region’s political supremo, in addition to sustaining attacks on Ruto
Gachagua is crafting a mega-opposition coalition with several political figures, including Wiper boss Kalonzo Musyoka, DAP Kenya Eugene Wamalwa and Martha Karua of People’s Liberation Party.
Last month, the opposition leaders vowed to rally behind one candidate to take on President Ruto in 2027.
The former Mathira MP has already announced he will launch a new political vehicle in May to challenge President Ruto.
