With the advancement in technology across the world, Safaricom, Kenya's biggest telecommunications service provider, has not been left behind.

Through the use of Artificial intelligence (AI), virtual assistance and many more, Safaricom is making moves to embrace talent through technology.

On Tuesday, Safaricom held the Safaricom De{c0}dE event, which brought together industry experts, government officials, technologists, students, and thought leaders to explore and showcase the latest advancements and innovations in engineering and technology.

Aligned with Kenya’s Vision 2030 which leverages technology to drive inclusive growth, the event empowers grassroots communities, foster innovation, and create sustainable economic opportunities.

Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa who flagged the three-day event said it is not just about showcasing technology but for everyone to understand how they can navigate through their talent and and career choices.

He said Safaricom is using AI in numerous ways to better their services. "As a tech organisation, we look forward to providing our customers with highly personalized services and experiences across all our platforms," Ndegwa said.

He said Safaricom's AI-led operations is based on three copyrights. The first one is AI customer experience, where they are creating a more streamlined and engaging customer experience.

This has been made possible through ZURI (an artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot assitant). The CEO added that they integrate technology to prewarm customers when they are about to be defrauded.

Through monetisation, they explore business smartvl network and research capabilities. He said Safaricom has used technology to solve societal challenges.

"Through the services we offer, we empower people to opportunities and knowledge," he added. He called on young people to embrace their skills and knowledge through the opportunities," Ndegwa said.

"If you are a student and you are not examining what AI can contribute, whether you are an engineering student or not, explore the area," he added.

He said satellite technology will complement terrestrial technology to provide universal connectivity across the world.

Ndegwa said that AI will not replace individuals but enable them to perform optimally. According to him, the firm forecasts on having seven million AI users by 2027.

He said that De{c0}dE event will serve as an inspiration to the next M-Pesa. This year’s summit is themed “Charting East Africa’s Digital Destiny.”
